  • Prehospital Test Bed

    Over the last 20 years, ambulance care has gone from being an dedicated transportation organization to an advanced resource in medical care. This places great demands on research and development of new methods and new technology for assessment and treatment. Carrying out research in real clinical environments is difficult, and sometimes inappropriate. Similarly, it is difficult to test new technology, equipment and IT systems, since these require expensive CE labelling. A test bed with the opportunity to simulate the entire healthcare chain has tremendous possibilities for safe and cost-effective use for both research and testing new methods and systems, as well as product development. The test bed will further strengthen the unique cluster around prehospital medical care and e-health in the region.  

  • PreSISe - Prehospital Decision Support for Identification of Risk of Sepsis – Read More

    PreSISe is a long-term project to develop and evaluate AI-based decision support for prehospital assessment of sepsis risk.

    One important part of the project deals with visualization and putting the system to use. The way in which the decision-making support functions, how the results are presented and how they influence the healthcare process will be studied and evaluated in collaboration with actual users. As an important part of putting the system to use, questions concerning CE labelling, responsibility and long-term administration of data and decision support systems will be studied.

  • TEAPaN - Traffic Event Assesment, Prioritizing and Notification – Read more

    With connected individuals and a connected traffic environment, new opportunities for increased traffic safety for all road users are created — for example detecting, managing and warning about “acute” traffic incidents like accidents, animals in the road or sudden illness. Making full use of the opportunities, however, requires creating the fundamental conditions for collaboration between the societal and commercial players concerned — both illustrative applications and offerings. TEAPaN is managed by PICTA in partnership with SAFER, the road safety center at Chalmers University.

    National ambulance care must become an integrated part of the national digitalization of healthcare and medical service, and thereby of Vision eHealth 2025. In this project, the work will be further pursued in partnership with the relevant players.

  • PrehospIT-Stroke – Read more

    The project aimed to improve conditions for the efficient use of ICT/eHealth in prehospital healthcare by laying the foundations to harmonize semantic and technical interoperability at the national level. The project managed information and communication that improves the patient care process at each stage from the emergency call to 112 to care at the right hospital.

  • Prehospital Identification of Sepsis - Pre-study

    As part of PICTA, a pre-study was conducted for the purpose of surveying how sepsis is currently identified at the prehospital stage, as well as the need and possibilities for prehospital decision support. The pre-study resulted in the PreSISe project.

  • Survey and initiation of SME research collaboration within Prehospital ICT

    The project inventoried the opportunities, and developed proposals for measures, for West Sweden to further stimulate collaboration, research, innovation, etc. among academia, the business community (SMEs — small and medium-sized enterprises) and healthcare providers/directors in the prehospital sphere in the broad sense, not just ICT. The project was a collaboration with MedTech West.

  • eNursing Open Arena

    PICTA managed the eNursing Open Arena portion of the Vinnova UDI 1 eNursing project led by Chalmers. The intent was to evaluate whether the field or industry could be developed in the same positive way as PICTA. The results of this project were positive, but the project consortium nonetheless chose to refrain from going further with a UDI 2 application for the entire project.

  • First Responders - university project

    Prehospital ICT as support for IVPA (I väntan på ambulans, Waiting for an Ambulance), sea rescue and other players who are first on the scene in the event of illness or incident but have limited medical competence.

  • Prehospital ICT - State of the Art

    Prestudy on state of the art within prehospital ICT in selected EU countries and North America.

  • Trauma triage

    Trauma Triage was a pre-study of how a new triage algorithm for trauma could be implemented in prehospital healthcare and was built on research in SAFER: Research Area Care & Rescue.

    The project continued as a degree project at Chalmers University (Signals and Systems). This resulted in a complete ICT solution, including apps for ambulance use and IT infrastructure for uploading, storage and analysis of collected data. This solution will form the basis of a planned study in ambulance operations.
