Another year is coming to a close, and apart from Christmas tasks, thoughts naturally turn to the year that has passed and the one that is to come. During 2017, those of us at Prehospital ICT Arena (PICTA) held three packed Metis Forums – and after every symposium we were struck by two things: how great interest has been in the prehospital field, and how many interesting, innovative things can be put under the heading of Prehospital IT and eHealth.

PrehospIT & ViPHS
Apart from the Metis Forums, we also brought PrehospIT, our first major project, to a conclusion in 2017. The project is a milestone for PICTA – not only because we carried out a project with 21 parties, but more that the project delivered valuable results and new projects. An important part of PrehospIT was our effort at the Vitalis trade fair, where we had a booth with an ambulance and conducted simulation demonstrations. The entire effort was successful both for the project and for PICTA – most of the visitors appreciated our booth.

The Video Support in the Prehospital Stroke Chain (ViPHS) project is one result of PrehospIT. The first steps in this project were taken in 2017, in the form of full-scale simulations to study work flows, camera placements, and the like. In 2018, we expect to be testing in an operational ambulance environment. In ViPHS we are benefiting from the PICTA network, and are conducting dialogue with similar projects in Skåne, Sweden and Jutland, Denmark.

New employee
At the end of 2017, I also had the opportunity to welcome a new employee to PICTA: Johanna Bergman. In 2018, Johanna and I will be doing our best together to utilize the unique opportunities for devel oping the prehospital health care that PICTA offers.

A number of projects are under planning and preparation before the start of 2018, apart from the ones that are continuing. Planning for the next Metis Forum has begun, and the date is set for February 22 – after that there will be one on May 23. Furthermore, work is under way on developing PICTA as an open arena, which includes broadening its areas of operation but continuing with mobile prehospital care in focus. All in all, we seem to be heading into an interesting 2018.

Finally, of course, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
